Variety is always a win for the consumer, and the same goes for comic book movies. It’s astonishing how fresh THE BATMAN feels within the realm of IP-filmmaking, all the while without actually doing anything new. It’s derivative, but when it’s done well, that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. What it seems like audiences really want (for now) is well-executed blockbuster-fun on the big screen, sans the plastic sheen of greasy corporate tentacles (there’s a reason why you’re not excited for MORBIUS). Besides, now that we’ve seen Joker get the Scorsese treatment, and Batman get the Fincher treatment, the logical next step is the Lynchification of the Superman story.

Also, Greig Fraser gives a masterclass on how to use vintage glass throughout the film. His brilliant photography in this one is slowly hijacking my Twitter timeline.
