If action moviemaking was basketball, Michael Bay would be James Harden.

Despite wasting a decade of his career on a doomed franchise, don’t be surprised when he drops 40 points on you on a Tuesday night. Granted, AMBULANCE is a total mess; it’s bloated to all hell, it ties the camera to a string and swings it 360° in hoping that you won’t notice it’s many glaring plot holes, and it clears out for the most shallow characters that have ever been put to paper. But traditional movie-making rules go out the window when you’re having a good time. It’s a roller coaster, not without a few creaks, but still worthy of the price of admission. Sprinkle in some coke-binge Gyllenhaal and you’ve got a movie. The streets needed this one. Welcome back to the party, Mr. Bay.
